Klinikum Mutterhaus der Borromäerinnen Ehrang
The number of people suffering from chronic pain has consistently increased in recent years. The affected persons are primarily patients with musculoskeletal pain (back pain, chronic joint pain, pain from osteoporosis) as well as patients with chronic headaches (migraine or tension headache).
These patients often have a long history of suffering, usually with multiple diagnostic procedures and various mostly futile therapy attempts behind them. Frequently these patients must endure being labeled malingerers.
We regard it as our duty to establish a trusting doctor-patient relationship, to care for you according to the principles of modern pain management, and in cooperation with you to find other coping strategies for your chronic suffering.
Dr. Andrea Schmitz and Dr. Alfred Seegmüller are your qualified medical contact persons in outpatient pain management and - as Consultants - in your inpatient pain management in the Clinical Center Mutterhaus Ehrang.
Palliative medicine is “an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problems associated with life-threatening illness…”(WHO 2002). In this context the therapy extends beyond only medical measures to include psychological and social aspects as well as spiritual questions, which go hand in hand with the awareness of the finiteness of our existence. The therapeutic objective is not the cure of the underlying disease. The emphasis is on achieving the best possible and symptom-free remaining lifetime.
For this purpose, physicians trained in palliative medicine work closely together with various professional groups (caregivers and nurses, psychologists, pastors, social workers, physiotherapists). We have a special commitment to cooperating with the family physicians and the outpatient care services (social services, hospice society) in order to optimally care for you at home as well. We would like to stand by your side and support you and your family members in giving the final phase of your life a positive perspective.
