The focus is on the ageing individual
Geriatrics, also known as age-related medicine, deals with the health care of ageing individuals. We, the geriatric team, specialize in the treatment of elderly people. Our treatment concept is based on the physical, psychological, intellectual, and social needs of our patients.
The goal of geriatric diagnostics, therapy, and rehabilitation is the recovery and/or maintenance and support of the independence and self-sufficiency of the elderly individual when endangered by illness and/or disability. Geriatric care contributes through appropriate measures to the life satisfaction of the elderly and improves their quality of life.
The complexity of illness in old age brings about the necessity of multidisciplinary cooperation between physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, social workers, and pastors. Every professional category seeks, through their actions, to promote a holistic understanding of the older patient. Geriatrics, in particular, includes the support and assistance of elderly people in a thoughtful and caring manner, also in the case of irreversible illness and degeneration - often over a long period of time - relieving their suffering, and accompanying them in the dying process. The elderly person can rely on us that, when all possible life preserving therapies are exhausted, he/she will continue to receive the attentive and active care of the geriatrician and the geriatric team.
